You think it couldn't get worse, but then senior leadership open their mouths

Pros

Great opportunity to work on impactful projects with very knowledgeable individuals.

Cons

Everyone is upset with the constant slashing of benefits and reminders from the senior leadership that our pay is not competitive because we should be working for the 'mission' > making money. The CEO recommends to leave and go work for Google if your sole purposes in life is to make money. I want to know if there is a company out there that has mismanaged return to office. We all know that in-office presence is required to justify the lease space and comply with our federal sponsors. Senior leadership refuses to say that. They say it's all about 'spontaneous collaboration'. Recently, during a Q&A, it was said that our sponsors want us on-site, THEIR site, not MITRE offices. How does being at a sponsor site correlate to bringing everyone back to a MITRE campus? Also, we learned that correlation equals causation. Right?

Good Mission

Pros

Great mission, innovative work especially if you are in the technology space

Cons

Some pockets of leaders are too profit driven given it is a non-profit company, expectations for roles and responsibilities for same level and job class across the company varies, some toxic leaders, but not all. Over my 10 years at the organization, the work life balance is the worst it has ever been, they are now mandating and reprimanding employees for returning to the office a minimum set of days. Previously I have always been given the flexibility to meet my project and sponsor needs and that is no longer the case, I MUST be "butts in seat" and it is being monitored every pay period. It feels micro-managing to be told to walk around and talk to people. You can not force organic communication and relationship building through mandates and telling people when to walk, when to keep doors open, when to eat lunch with people, etc.

Pros

You’ll get to work with very smart people, on interesting important work. CEO is leaving at the end of the year, and hopefully they pick someone better

Cons

Executive team is condescending to staff and tried to hide benefit cuts behind “equity” or saying that certain benefits were not meant to be used in the way they that been offered. For example, they cut vacation time for senior staff in the name of equity, then made it harder to use short term leave and told staff to use vacation time to make up the difference.
