      Pros

      Development oriented work environment. Matrixed organization allows most anyone to work on any of thousands of active projects, although in practice your choices may be limited by word of mouth and assignments from management.

      Cons

      Your path here will depend very heavily on who you work with and who you work for. It will be mostly up to you to seek project work that develops the skills you want, and that exposes you to smart and good-natured people. Those things aren't a given. Raises and promotions are modest.

      Pros

      Mission driven work in an organization full of smart, capable people who care about solving tough problems to serve our country. Great benefits and good work life balance. Stability of being a large non-profit (they are not going to be acquired or merge with another company given their corporate structure, which i experienced several times over my career in the private sector)

      Cons

      Recent reorgs and leadership shifts have unsettled some. It has not had much of a direct impact on my day to day and hopefully will ultimately make us a stronger organization.
