      At MITRE you're working in the public interest - acting as a trusted adviser to the government. You work with very smart people who are subject matter experts.

      Cons

      Sometimes government bureaucracy can be frustrating

      Pros

      incredibly wide scope of work varying from research and prototyping to fielded work (though rarer). depending on project/department, you are often able to work on multiple projects at once if desired.

      Cons

      the necessary amount of red tape that you must traverse around with government funded work. projects sometimes come under budgeting issues but my employment never felt at risk - there's always more work and other projects available. this doesn't mean that you can't keep focusing on a specific technology/skill though because there are almost plenty of projects that need your technical skill and can actually be a great boon too if you want to be a well-rounded, well-traveled engineer.

While priorities on funded work can shift, we are happy that you always had other projects to work on and felt secure in your position.
