Pros

Has fully embraced millennials in the past 5 years; Significant federal govt experience; Incredible tuition benefits; Unmatched work-life balance

Cons

Moves slow, partially because of the government but also because a high number of “retired-in-place” employees.

Pros

Lots of smart people. Plenty of challenges in the sponsor domain that allow for opportunity to have significant impact.

Cons

The culture has changed radically. We used to be focused on quality, and nothing trumped that. That was our value-add, being that we're charged with being at the right hand of our sponsors ensuring they're focused on the right things and investing in the proper technologies. But now it's about speed "without sacrificing any quality." It's completely contradictory, and disheartening because it radically changes the culture. And the new leaders/leadership hierarchy sound like we're preparing to be a for-profit entity focused on augmenting our bottom line. ... Again, disheartening.

I understand your concerns about moving faster. You're not alone in raising this issue — I've received a lot of similar feedback. Our sponsors are telling us they need us to be faster and more agile as we help them address priorities across the FFRDCs we manage. And we’re helping to tackle challenges so large and complex that the only way we can hope to solve them is through stronger and broader relationships. I believe we can find ways to improve what we're doing so that we can more quickly help the government without sacrificing what's made us so valuable thus far. Come see or email me some time – I'd really like to hear your concerns and discuss further. Julie Gravallese, VP & Chief Human Resources Officer

Pros

MITRE has a very good culture overall that fosters teamwork, professional growth and innovation. Work-life balance is also respected with flexible work arrangements available.

Cons

Growth is not clearly defined for early and mid-career professionals. In addition to being a good performer, career growth is also based on the project you work on as well as your Project Lead and Group Lead (admin supervisor). Office politics is minimal but also plays a part nonetheless.
