      An organization drowning in its own hubris

      Pros

      Flexible work arrangements; steady work; strong business development. A lot of the work has become very boring.

      Cons

      Posted AC job categories and responsibilities don't match actual promotions. It does not matter what you do as long as you kiss up to the right manager. Employees are punished for requesting guidance or understanding on why they are not advancing by being told they are only out for themselves despite feedback from the same managers that the way to advance is to work hard and be proactive. Mixed messages lead to great confusion.

      Pros

      Exciting, interesting and important work supporting our country. Great benefits including a decent match for the 403B retirement and outstanding health care options. OUTSTANDING vacation package with plenty of opportunities to use it. People doing the work are universally excellent. Very bright and motivated people.

      Cons

      Promotions are very poor. Recognition for work is meager at best. Feedback and evaluation system is extremely poor, not fitting the type of work we do, nor the environment in which we work.. Management is generally "hands off" preferring, apparently, not wishing to deal with people problems or issues repeatedly recognized as one of the few downsides for the company.

      MITRE good for interesting work, bad for compensation

      Pros

      Flexible with job opportunities and scheduling Ability to pursue multiple interests. Interesting and innovative work programs.

      Cons

      Poor for compensation and promotions for those deserving. Must do higher level job for significant amount of time (several years) before you are promoted and compensated at the higher level. Many employees work at government work sites in government buildings but we are not giving all government holidays. Occasionally we are forced to take vacation when you can't work because of a gov't holiday.
