Pros

Nothing. Only good thing I can think of about this bank is that I no longer work here. Bottom line: avoid any "Bilingual-Japanese blah blah" type of job at this bank. Especially if you have a undergrad or graduate degree from schools in US, find somewhere else before letting your career die.

Cons

Seriously, find somewhere else for the sake of your career success. - Expats from Tokyo treat you like a dirt. Your experience, education, or English fluency will never be appreciated. If you are a local guy, you are a second-class citizen. - If you want to be a local management, be as mean to your colleague as expats - Too inefficient. They can't do anything without printing everything on paper. - Some of them are so inept that they don't even know excel shortcut. Yes we are "investment bankers" - Some other doesn’t even speak/write English. Yes, we are a "global financial group" - Comp is meh. Or you could say it's decent, considering all those monkey jobs you'll end up doing. - Micro management. You have to spend 1 hour a day to report what you did for the day. - Face-time. Those Japanese management mistake staying late for hard work. - Japanese management really discourage you to take day-off or work from home, even when snow storm cripples public transportation in NYC metro. - They don't want you to think. They only want you to be a trained monkey. - poor IT infrastructure - HR is a joke. a) They offer internal mobility for career development. Oh wait, you are in Japanese corp? Then this option is not yours. b) They have hotline for workplace issue such as harassment. But they back away if expats are involved in harassment. I saw a friend of mine left because of that. c) Recently many of HR function were relocated to Arizona as de facto out-sourcing. HR staffs there don't have a clue about bank's HR policy.

Pros

Unfortunately, there aren't much. I have yet to experience anything positive about this bank since I joined.

Cons

I honestly don't even know where to begin. Management is absolutely atrocious. If you haven't been anointed into their group as someone who they like, then you might as well just cut your losses and leave. For example, management abides by the "do as I say, and not as I do" rule. You will be tasked with an assignment and if you don't do the assignment the way it "always has been done", then prepare to pay a hefty price. Your thoughts, creativity, and opinions don't matter so please don't think you can come into this bank and "improve" on any current process. The culture is extremely toxic, even for a Japanese bank. There are other Japanese banks out there that will treat you better, so it would be best to look into them. If you finish tasked assignments early, THEY will be ripped apart and asked to be redone. That is only because these inept managers are afraid to be outdone by their employees. If you finish an assignment late, YOU will be ripped apart as being incompetent. There is literally a no win situation when it comes to the work. The managers here are managers, not leaders. They will never ever benefit you in any way so that your career can grow. They are looking for robots who can process the work they need the way it has always been done in the time they think it takes to be done, regardless of how big or difficult the assignment is. Unfortunately, I have heard this in two other departments besides the one I work in. All I can say is CYB (cover your behind), because the snakes that run the groups will give you conflicting information every chance they get. It is truly unfortunate.

Pros

Cool coffee machines at various Tempe campuses; great (some) people working for MUFG; compensation is above market average for finance industry

Cons

Politics and favoritism are prevalent in business as well as ER team; no support from Management as well as intimidation; unable to give raw feedback towards management during employee satisfaction surveys due to fear of retaliation; unrealistic expectations of ER Consultants; heavy scrutiny of ER case documentation - it's near impossible to make ER management happy/satisfied no matter how hard you try; layoffs of branch management resulted in decline of necessary coaching/performance management of their staff.
