Pros

- Great people to work with - Higher salary than most publishers - Fairly flexible work environment - Good work/life balance - Great benefits/perks - Annual bonus (amount varies) - At least a 3% raise annually - Summer Fridays! - Week off between Christmas and New Years!

Cons

- Probably lower salary than market rate but this is just general for publishing - Some managers have antiquated ideas/methods - While the Flatiron building is a historic landmark, the inside is underwhelming and very outdated - Small bathrooms on every other floor (men one floor, women another floor)

Great company

Pros

It's a great company to start a career in publishing. Helpful leadership who are mostly prepared for the future.

Cons

Lots of turnover, but that's pretty typical in this industry and at this level. Budgets are tight but that's the industry norm.

Very talented colleagues and great work environment

Pros

I'm surrounded by people who are not just talented but also extremely devoted to their jobs. It makes for an inspirational work environment and my manager and colleagues have all been very helpful and supportive, which has been important to my growth as someone who is new to the industry.

Cons

It would be nice to receive more feedback on my work and how I could better assist the editors on my team. HR has put in place a standardized, annual self-review/evaluation process, but it would be helpful to receive feedback more frequently than just once a year, even if it's just an informal, 10-minute conversation that goes beyond what I should prioritize day-to-day, and touches on what sort of long-term goals and skills I should be working to develop (and how I should achieve them.)
