Pros

Overall, there is a relaxed and fun attitude. The company hosts great summer and Christmas parties. There is a really good mix of people and generally, they're all great. My experience of the management was positive 90% of the time. The work load varied depending on experience, as you would expect, and upon who your clients were and book release schedules, event schedules etc. There was great benefits, especially for mothers returning to work from having a baby, although i'm not sure if that is still the case. Great working hours (9-5 with an hour for lunch), free bus to take you to and from town, 25 days holiday rising with service and paid sickness leave.

Cons

As with any office politics could get in the way - in hindsight, my manager at the time wasn't as bad as I thought, a little dramatic but supportive, patient and understanding. There wasn't much room for progression with in teams as staff retention is really good - but I believe this is something that has improved, creating new roles, and through promotions. The pay wasn't good enough for the department that I was in, as there was pressure to deliver - could potentially have looked at targets and bonuses (no bonus structure at all).

Pros

Macmillan has lots of work and would keep you busy during your duration there, but don't expect any rewards!

Cons

No support from management and seniors, no work-life balance, no cooperation from other departments, weak and inefficient HR and Admin, no compensation or perks or benefits or bonus, long working hours, no employee-friendly policies

Pros

-Benefits, private health care, money off books, Christmas books free up to the value of £30 -Positive atmosphere -The company actually wants to improve you, progress you and make you better -Course they put you on -Canteen - food is very good. Nice to have a big canteen to socialise and eat in -Glass house building is very swank -Mostly professional people working here -Company you are proud to have on your CV

Cons

-Due to the size of the company there is a long chain of things like approvals to buy new equipment -Have to follow a certain process to escalate issues which can be quite long winded -Within the technical department there is a sense of 'We don't cover this take it back' -Christmas party big let down, no dinner or entertainment. Expect a bit more from such a big company.
