Pros

Great work environment. Time never goes by slowly. Always something different. I am just writing this review so I can look at another review. I do feel that Macy's is a great place to work and would recommend it to others. My boss is the best boss I've ever had. He doesn't hover and respects that he has trained me to do my job well and only steps in when necessary. Macy's has great people who work for them and help the day pass by with ease. Working as a team is very important for Macy's employees. Hope my review was helpful.

Cons

The benefits package is expensive for what you get. I don't feel it is worth it. I have a college degree and don't feel that my pay is as good as it should be. I cannot write a hundred words about downsides of Macy's because I can't think of any. I enjoy working there and would highly recommend it to anyone. Working at Macy's has taught me a lot and I feel most people would benefit for working in the environment they provide. I am now just typing to fill in the minimum word amount. Sorry for not having more negative things to say.

Pros

The opportunities for advancement are great. If the right people like you and you show some potential, the sky's the limit. I received a promotion into management after less than a year working with the company, and I got an opportunity to meet store managers, vice presidents, vendor company presidents, CEOs, etc. It is a great place to network. Also, I have to admit that most of the people that I met in management positions or above did start out as sales associates.

Cons

Retail is horrible. You are working with people who, generally speaking, barely graduated from high school. The customers are unpleasant, and it is just a really unprofessional atmosphere.

Pros

After about 3 positions, they begin to recognize high potential and put you on a career development program. Also, there are a lot opportunities to advance laterally between corporate buying and in-store management. I'm told that it is important to know both in order to advance successfully in the long run.

Cons

It takes 3 whole positions before they recognize high potential. Hitting the ground running or advancing quickly from the start is impossible. There is an initial period of about 2 years where responsibilities come slowly and the work is "task-driven".
