Pros

Fun job for creatives, always doing something different! Never really gets boring. It is not all just dressing up mannequins, like some believe, it is quite labor intensive!

Cons

I have a background in art and display and it seems Macy's does not compensate its visual staff for their experience. They are the lowest paying company I have ever worked for. They recently switched to a new health insurance system that was obviously chosen to benefit executives and not the personnel who keep the stores running at a woefully low salary.

Pros

you learn visual standards , given big responsibilities, Knowing your DM's by name and seeing them often, Working in one of the most challenging stores in the Mid-Atlantic region , Working in an A/B door (merchandise wise)

Cons

No room for advancement , no respect giving from the visual manager, Being singled out when things aren't going the "right way" , Rude personal stabs

Pros

there are many locations, easy to transfer

Cons

management changes so fast it's impossible to keep up, one team will promise you something, the new one says "we don't honor what the previous one said" corporate demands set of standards be met, but doesn't provide the tools to do it. then makes it hard for senior staff to get out of an under-performing store. I was asked by management to help clean up a store that was a 2 hour commute away from my home, under the guise that I could transfer back when it was done.. it was done 2 years ago, and new management wants to move me farther away not closer, have refused to move me back.. then did a pay freeze.. it cost me more to get to work then I am paid now after 20 years of stellar performance with this company.. they push their best to the point of burnout, hoping someone else will step in and do it for less..
