Stability is not great, Company went through multiple lay off, Bonuses were cut, Profitability is still a question, Culture is more comparable to a big company than a startup

For all of the four years I spent there, the executive team could never override the autocratic CEO who was finally pushed out in May 2020 (conveniently, right after most of the company had already been laid off). He set unrealistically high sales expectations that we ALL knew were impossible, even the senior executives. It was like the emperor's new clothes. He flip-flopped on the overall strategy and messaging so many times, it made us all look like idiots who couldn’t plan. He insisted on absolute control and veto power over everything from product features to company policies to approving new hires. It could take months to hire a key person or approve a vendor payment because he had to personally approve the transaction. The executive team seemed powerless to convince him to make sensible and rational decisions or move some of the decision-making authority further down the chain. It is too bad, because the technology had such promise, and a lot of the folks who were laid off along with me were (and are) very talented people whose careers may be hurt by the Theranos-like vibes that Magic Leap is giving off now. I can only hope that the new CEO will make sensible decisions and not run the company into the ground. Let's see what they can do with that $350 million they just got.
