Pros

- Not a lot of OT, and good work/life balance - Some of the nicest people work there - Good diversity (for a tech studio) - Can be a good foot in the door to the industry, or decent if you just need a paycheck.

Cons

- Bad "start-up" mentality that everyone on the team helps out where needed. Only apply if you're a generalist or if you like wearing a lot of hats, because that is an expectation at the company. This expectation has also lead to the elimination for 'specialist roles' in the studio. Don't apply if you want to be somewhere to hone your craft. - Pay can be inconsistent across art department members (even with same job title). It can be above average, or well below average, but it depends on which recruiter you talk to or if you are willing to fight for your worth. This leads the studio to take advantage of more soft-spoken or non-confrontational applicants, and leads to pay disparity among teammates. - High turnaround for artists :( - CEO likes to talk about 1-star Glassdoor reviews in company chat

Pros

Most of the people at Magnopus are very nice. The company is pretty accommodating to people’s lives. Pay is decent. Unlimited time off.

Cons

Many good people who love the company get mistreated and mismanaged. Experts are often ignored. People who are unproductive or unskilled often get preferred treatment. Any problems reported with coworkers result in immediate separation. You will likely not work on things that match your career goals. Projects are not budgeted properly. Nepotism is a slight issue.

Thanks for your feedback, and for the time you spent with us! I know we've been criticized in the past for "holding on to people" and "not firing quickly enough." And you're right, people who may be underperforming get more attention than those who are performing well. We do that because we think it's what's right to do, and we've seen positive results from it. In fact, sometimes those "under-performers" have turned out to be our greatest assets when we find the thing that gives them meaning and purpose. Sometimes what one person thinks is "un-productive or unskilled" is actually just "different" and we like to take time to explore the possible value of "different." Certainly, it doesn't work out all the time, and sometimes we don't do as good a job of supporting everyone as we'd like. Admittedly, there are people who get frustrated with that because they embrace a "survival of the fittest" corporate mentality. As you found out, those people are probably better off at another company, and that's ok. We can definitely be doing better, as you suggest, and will continue to look for the right ways to do it.
