A Mixed Bag: Some Good, Some Not So Great

Pros

Involvement in intriguing projects at the forefront of cutting-edge technology. The pace of work was rapid, which kept things dynamic and exciting. What stood out the most, though, were the incredibly talented individuals I had the privilege to work with. Their expertise and dedication made collaboration both stimulating and rewarding. Overall, these factors made it an enjoyable and enriching experience.

Cons

Career advancement opportunities were scarce, with a noticeable absence of structured pathways for professional growth and upward mobility. Compensation fell below industry standards, making it challenging to feel fairly rewarded for the work invested. Moreover, the company often made ambitious promises that seldom materialized, leading to disillusionment among the team. Performance reviews for compensation were inconsistent, adding to uncertainty and dissatisfaction. Managers struggled with basic people management skills and leads did not give proper credit when it was deserved. Overall, the company exhibited weak leadership, lacking clear direction and well-defined processes, contributing to a sense of disorganization and frustration.

Great people, bad leadership

Pros

The heart of the company is trying to be different from the normal grind of this industry. The promise was that people come first and there is healthy work-life balance. The promise was that we'd be working on the top tier of cutting edge projects and technology. And a lot of this was true. The talent is truly amazing and most people are very kind to one another.

Cons

The reality is that the leadership is unfocused and leaves the company doing too many different things and none of them with true excellence. Magnopus doesn't know if it's a game studio, a visual effects studio, a software company, or something altogether different. This lead often to frustration and confusion amongst employees. Some of the top leadership just seem overwhelmed and don't truly care. I wish it had been a better experience and lived up to what was promised in the interview.

Pros

One thing I can say with confidence about Magnopus is that this is not a company that will stagnate and let technology pass it by. I've been in the industry for long enough to clearly see that this company thrives on the edge of technology. This may seem like a negative to some but the company is also smart enough to have a broad range of projects running concurrently, allowing them to explore and push the boundaries on some. This is a solid, creative company. I feel like some people don't understand the what it's like on the "other side". Magnopus gets projects done in a low stress environment with amazing efficiency and I feel like this is just the beginning.

Cons

This is still a relatively new company and they're still learning a lot about production and processes. Company size is also growing which is something they're learning to manage. That being said, they're still doing a great job, but I can see the tinkering that goes on trying to find the perfect formula. I have absolute faith that they'll find it.
