Pros

paid holidays, okay insurance, clean for a prison, a ton of overtime available, multiple places to transfer

Cons

Very unethical practices, against every kind of discrimination possible. Plays favories and does not care about education and experience over who you know. Has had several EEOC complaints against them, many of which have been won. Low pay for correctional officers, unsafe practices, and several coverups of wrong doings.

Pros

You get to work with kids and young adults, it is a good opportunity to give back to society.

Cons

For a goverment funded program, they have some serious issues with their upper management pushing their religion on students. Offering incentives and rewards, even a worlds of fun trip, to watch christian themed movies and attend bible study classes. On the whole, the top tiers seem to be cut off from the students needs, worrying more about impressing the higher ups and budget goals. Take a walk through the sweltering heat in the residential building to see what I'm talking about, The AC has been broken for some time, but because finance has imposed an arbitrary budget freeze, it cannot be fixed or replaced. Not to mention dwindling supplies such as paper towels and toilet paper, a serious black mold problem in the male and female showers, sketchy hiring policies, and a very limited transportation and security department (anything to save money!), and it can quickly become stressful. Not only do you have to deal with difficult students (which isn't a problem, it's the job after all), but when you get similar high school drama from staff members, you know you have a problem.
