Pros

By the time I left I'm not sure I could find any pros except for being able to take PTO as needed.

Cons

Contacted consistently while on PTO. Employees pitted against each other. No work life balance. Low pay, far under market value. Merit increases mainly non existent to keep team members from leaving. Incredibly stressful environment. I realized once I left and joined a new company how poorly this company is managed and how badly employees are treated.

Pros

Benefits, hybrid and half-day on Friday and that is it.

Cons

My time at ManhattanLife was unpleasant. If you are someone who constantly invest in self-improvements to be of greater value, then skip this employer and look somewhere else to dedicate your time, focus, and energy. The pay isn’t great, and very little pay raise as well. There is simply no upward mobility. No accommodations if you are someone taking extra courses—they won’t work with you. I get a lot of folks over the years (who carries great background and skills professionally) via LinkedIn who expresses their interest about wanting an opportunity to work at ManhattanLife and I tell them the truth, I.e., not to waste their time (though around the beginning of my time there, I have gotten a few into the company, not sure if they’re still there.) You will experience burnout faster than ever further contributing to a horrible experience working there. It is impossible to connect with colleagues on different levels in hopes of building relationships and transitioning. I went from being extroverted to now introverted because that is simply their environment. I got ghosted after being offered a role internally. It still hurts and It was a huge blow to my confidence. I go to the gym a lot and have been going forever, but it took some time to build my confidence back and lower my anxiety as a young man. I would have appreciated a civil detailed explanation on why. Management went MIA for long periods of time, leaving you stranded to navigate things on your own—It was as though management themselves have no idea what they’re doing or what is going on between departments. More importantly, they don’t care or value your ideas and growth. I gave it my all! I could go on and on, but use your imagination and understand what I am saying as well as other similar reviews posted—it’s all true. If you have read to the end, then best of luck to you and Lord knows he’s got my back for my next endeavor.

Pros

half days on fridays...thats it

Cons

My time at ManhattanLife has been challenging, as I have found it difficult to connect with colleagues, and trust has been a significant issue. The workplace environment feels distant, resembling a lack of camaraderie, and I often find solace in simply completing my tasks while listening to music. In terms of job satisfaction, I've observed that going above and beyond is not incentivized unless there is a strong affinity from the management. The limitations on lunch breaks and the absence of paid breaks, depending on the department, add to the overall dissatisfaction. The workplace culture, reminiscent of high school dynamics, fosters an atmosphere where people readily report on each other. Additionally, the perception of a lackluster approach from both the management and HR is disheartening. Attempts at friendliness or cordiality seem futile, and the prevailing sentiment is to "keep walking, do your job, and stay quiet." Advancement opportunities appear contingent on personal relationships rather than merit. While I acknowledge that the job can be laid back and easy, contributing to a potential weight gain over time, the negative aspects, such as gossip and small-mindedness, are concerning. The disregard for mental health and a general sense of existing rather than living as a human being further contribute to a less-than-ideal work environment. Lastly, I anticipate a potential response from HR, and I hope that it reflects a genuine commitment to addressing these concerns rather than a scripted response.
