Hard work is not appreciated or rewarded.

Pros

Very good benefits packages for you and your family.

Cons

All about who you know in the company. Those that work hard are not appreciated and are forced to go to other companies that pay more and promote. Nepotism and those that are favored are the only people who will get promoted or paid well.

Pros

Benefits, Ability to change divisions after 6 months in a position if there is an available opening (but you are required to interview). I do believe there are lots of great divisions in Markel, and the company is VERY financially stable, but the two departments I worked in were not positive experiences.

Cons

Limited room for advancement depending on program/division, inefficient underwriting workflows, bureaucratic, compensation/salaries are lower than industry average (justified by a bonus that is not guaranteed and that fluctuates annually) with very small annual increases
