Pros

Many pros here, the working environment is very good, respectful and collaborative works across teams. The DS team is kind of newly built, but with a great shape of support. The engineering team or called DS software engineering team work closely with DS team, they handle pretty much everything underline for database, data management, software framework for you. The deployment of work is so easy. The database using Vertica other than some free versions by most of other companies which is the best I see so far, pretty quick and time saving to get your work done. There is a data science development program called DSDP owned by the company. Many asians students from some southeastern countries finish their Master's degree together with MussMutual. The admission to the program is quite competitive, they work closely with company's DS, which is a good opportunity for both sides. So the high level management is pretty good in making the work easy. The pay is kind of standard in financial area, not outstanding, not better than IT.

Cons

For cons, a lot either. It is an insurance company, so not really a finance company trading the equity or a technical company. If you expect your manager cares about the techniques or efforts you put, then forget about that. Many of themselves know much less than you. The business model is simple, the DS team is just trying to make stakeholders happy. You manager do not care and does not have time to care about what you do. You may put a whole among of efforts to your project, your manager would not know it or would just give you a bad end year review because you say something that does not make the stakeholder happy or does not make your manager happy. This should be the main reason I see many fokes left, the company is hard to keep people with good skills. No one really care about techniques. Actually, there is no such a need here, even in the DS team, many productions are on-demand base or mainly based on shiny R apps to illustrate something or to save time for stakeholder, not really machine learning or AI based. About 80% projects are in such cases.

Pros

The team is very collaborative and friendly

Cons

The executive management is so poor and they changed direction too frequent to even for people to finish anything meaningful. Set the deadline based on their own sake not on the reality. Not agile at all
