Excellent products. High ethical standards. Excellent brand recognition. As with any sales position, you efforts will determine what you earn. No limit on what you can do.

Cons

Since each office is operated by an independent General Agent, culture, training, staffing, etc can be very different from office to office. Administrative staff is paid by each GA, not the home office. GAs tend to be tight fisted with salaries and it can be reflected in quality.

Cons

culture of managing by fear. The average tenure of a MassMutual GA is only about 6 years. Roughly 10% of their GA's are terminated each year and once a GA leaves MassMutual, they do all they can to "blacklist" and keep the GA's from moving to competitors. There is also an unethical culture in the compliance and legal areas of the company. company has a long history of circling the wagons whenever they make a mistake and look for someone to "throw under the bus" Putting agents and GA's in financial ruin.

Given a lot of freedom and opportunity to make good money after a couple years. You can really help people you work with but very hard to succeed if you have a family or any bills to pay

Cons

After you fall off of your financing contract, which you will, it becomes very difficult to survive. You will also find out that when you do, any residual income you would have received is no longer paid unless you get back on financing. This is where you need that residual income the most and then all the sudden it is gone. Work life also depends on your GA, we had two, the first was amazing, the second left much to be desired.
