Staff Assistant II

Pros

Flexible and easy work. If you do not want direct patient care staff assistant is the way to go.. Other wise would suggest being a patient service coordinator.

Cons

MGH now has a policy where you have to clock in. Also really no advancement at the staff assistant level.

Pros

Access to the best researchers, the best library, and the best resources in the country. If you're a go-getter, there are myriad opportunities for you here, to launch your career.

Cons

Most long-term research positions at MGH (similar to many research hospitals) are soft money. That is, there is no job guarantee- you need to fund your own salary through grants. This lifestyle is not for everyone. However, most postdoc fellowships are funded by the PI, and after doing a post-doc here, many other (hard money) positions elsewhere will be within reach.
