Pros

You are your own boss. Control your own area, decide to work on yourself

Cons

The job advertisement that I responded to was inaccurate. I believe deliberately so. Other people at the facility indicated the same ploy was used to hire them too. Not putting into the job description, or telling them in an interview all of the major duties. Items they know would prevent people from applying or taking the job. They wait until people come to work and then start dropping all those things on them. When challenged, the response is “That’s the Job”. Once in an interview, the same tactic is used, not telling them of obvious points they know irritate, and prevent people from taking the job. So, in a short period of time, all the people hire are mad, furious at the place. I was told I was set up to do load testing in the field and I will be taught how to do that so I can travel around South Dakota and other states to it at company sites. I told him there was nothing in the job description about going on the road, and using my vehicle in a field service mode. He told me “that’s the job”. The Sioux Falls facility is a dump. The welding repair room had a thick layer of dirt on everything, benches, laptop, and floors. In many places, it was so thick; you could write your name in the dirt. In fact you couldn’t make out the keys on the laptop because it was so thick. The floors and benches also had broken welders, torn apart, covered with dirt, many of which were sent in to be fixed a year, year and a half ago. I found one in the pile, that was dated 2019. There were approximately 40-50 welders, wire feeders in and outside of the welding room. With the existing tools, you could not even take them apart. The employees break area is a tiny room with an old table in it, just big enough for TWO people. The cabinets, drawers are hard to open, some fall out on the floor if not careful, and off the tiny room is the bathroom, covered in thick green (mold) rust on the walls, dividers, and ceiling and with a broken mirror at the sink. The toilet area is barely big enough to use and has a warning on it that overflows. There is no training on testing, troubleshooting, fixing Miller, Lincoln, Hypertherm welders or plasma cutters. It is “Figure it out yourself” operation. You will be BURIED, OVERWHELMED, NEEDLED, HOUNDED, Badgered constantly by people wanting their welder fixed, wanting to know why you have not fixed their welder yet, and people who want you to troubleshoot their welder on the phone. In addition, there are the facility salesmen who also come and pressure, needle you.
