Very conservative company. Values long time employees (only appreciation, nothing else)

Average employer, at best

Pros

Relatively stable company that has been around for a long time. Now its own publicly-traded company that should allow for growth opportunities. Strong industry brand.

Cons

Culture of mediocrity - filled with long time employees that feel entitled to everything (ie, union mentality). Given that poor performers are not managed out (including some management) and high performers are not differentiated, no reason to grind out long days. Functional support groups not valued at all.

No room to flex any creative muscle here

Pros

Very stable company with a long and interesting history. Unique niche industry. Big, recognizable company name, but a small company feel inside the corporate office.

Cons

Most employees have been here 15 years, and many have been here for 25+ years. The company is stodgy and very stuck in their ways. Since so many employees have been working together for 20 years, new incoming employees are rarely treated as equals or even as part of the team. Anyone who has worked here for less than 5 years is treated as a "new" employee. This is a very clique-y environment to work in. For reasons mentioned above, employees and middle-management are very set in their routines and very opposed to change. They seem to believe that there is only one correct way of completing any given task. A lot of micromanaging goes on here.
