Pros

Remote first, Hybrid company, Matterport continues to refine its remote first plan as a company, this is so great for avoiding time in a commute. Its a nice culture with room to take chances and make the company better

Cons

I'd say a tendency to overthink a decision and get stuck in paralysis analysis, strives to be data driven, but sometimes stacks the deck of the data to look at to make a decision.

Very cool technology despite lack of leadership

Pros

The company has built a great hardware and software solution for recreating reality into navigable 3D spaces. Benefits are good, including the unlimited vacation.

Cons

Where to start? The annual layoffs have pretty much killed any morale there was left in the company. People work to not be noticed and hope to survive the next year. Rather than doing what they can to trim costs (which there is a lot of waste going on) and retain the top talent, they just cut. Executives won't take a pay cut even for the good of the people there. The executive leadership throughout the company has no ability to focus and plan a roadmap. And when a plan does finally come to fruition, they only follow it for a short time, thus leading to confusion and lack of trust in the people who are tasked with fulfilling the roadmap. Creating new features for the applications was very difficult as there has been no refactor since the day the product was born. You build one thing and it breaks three others. Product management was too focused on delivering the next new shiny feature versus making what existed stable and reliable. Toxicity, turf wars, and backstabbing is not uncommon among the ranks. In short, unless you only need employment for a year, this company is not one to land at for any fulfilling career step.

Pros

Some great colleagues, Remote work

Cons

So, you're thinking of joining Matterport? Let me give you a 3D view into this fascinating world of non-strategy: Buzzword Bingo Champion: Matterport has an uncanny knack for chasing after every shiny new buzzword like a squirrel on caffeine. If you’re looking to expand your jargon vocabulary, welcome aboard! By the time you leave (or run screaming from the virtual building), you’ll be fluent in all the latest and greatest nonsense. Leadership...or Lack Thereof: The leadership team is a marvelous collection of incompetent folks. Speaking of, they recently introduced a "Chief Customer Operations Officer" – sounds fancy, right? Trust me, she outshines them all in the incompetence department. A real star! People Team led by Jean: Imagine a circus without a ringmaster. That's the People Team. Supposedly they exist, but their cluelessness about the tanking morale is on par with a fish out of water. Jean, if you’re reading this, maybe try out a Ouija board? Might help you get in touch with your team's feelings. The CEO/Chairman Double Act: RJ Pittman. CEO and Chairman of the board. Because why not wear two hats when you can avoid accountability twice as effectively? If you're wondering how eBay tanked, here’s your answer. Matterport, brace yourself; you're next on his hit list. Hope Level: If Matterport were a battery, we'd be running on a consistent 0%. Hope is as scarce as a unicorn in this place. In conclusion, if you have an overwhelming desire to watch a company sink like the Titanic while dancing to the tune of buzzwords, and you have an immunity to plummeting morale, Matterport is your destination. Welcome aboard!
