Pros

Flexibility as registry nurse. Paycheck

Cons

Management/ Recruiters do not have a good working realationship with Nursing Staff. Shifts cancelled and not communicated with nurse. Staff will double book the nurse at two different hospitals and take the highest "bidder" then call the low bidder and tell that facility that the nurse cancelled. Then the staff would call the nurse and say the hospital cancelled but they have another shift for them. A friend of mine got DNR'd (do not return) at one facility because they thought she was a flake. Staff at that hospital called her up and asked why she had been cancelling so much. Thus the investigation began exposing Maxim's unethical practices that destroy the nurse's hard earned reputation. Pay is lower than average. Do not treat the nurses with respect but are condescending and insulting. Will schedule you to work when it is your day off then try to harrass you into taking the shift. The list goes on and on. Transferred offices, same treatment.

Pros

The office environment in our office was OK. By that, I mean that my co-recruiter became a close friend, and we got through our days by joking around and trying to make light of a pretty rough situation. I do feel that I gained some relevant experience in the business world, but it was done at the expense of my health and overall happiness. You can find some intrinsic motivation and satisfaction by realizing that you are helping people and providing an important service. However, you have to find this motivation within yourself because management frowns on that type of thinking. Management is purely money-motivated.

Cons

There are horrible office hours, 7:30am to 6:00pm on a good day. Most days are even longer. Don't even ask about flu season! Even all that wouldn't be THAT bad, except when you go home, you are still at work because you carry an on-call phone for "emergencies" and have to cover call-offs and other problems all night and all weekend. Promotions are constantly talked about but appear to be much more of a myth than what management would have you believe. I never once saw a promotion of anyone I knew within the company. The turnover rate for internal employees is over 80%. That alone should say something about job satisfaction. The environment is negative all day. You will never get an "atta boy" or a "good job" from anyone. My account manager always used to say that he knew he wasn't the best manager or motivator.... Ok, but does that make it right for him to belittle people all the time? I don't think so... If I had frequently proclaimed that I knew I wasn't very good at processing payroll, that would not be an excuse for constant mistakes in nurses paychecks. Overall, I feel like part of my soul was damaged for being part of this company. Steer clear if you can help it.

Pros

I worked as a recruiter straight out of college. It was a great place to cut your teeth in the world of business.

Cons

50+ hours/week for poor pay and on call; you always have people calling out at all hours of the night and it gets frustrating. The people you deal with are usually making a little over minimum wage and have no loyalty and they always
