Great benefits, potential work/life balance issue

Pros

Great benefits (competitive salary, employer contribution to 401k, insurance, plentiful time off), high-paying jobs (even for back office staff), and management that wants to see you succeed (both in projects and on your career track generally)

Cons

Deadline driven to the extent that work/life balance may suffer at times, managers are always on-call via Blackberry, pressure to achieve results quickly can be high

Good job for what I did

Pros

The benefits were great. For the pay grade that I was at, I was really lucky for the benefits that I got. The work was really what you made it.

Cons

It was slow at times and no one really told me that in the interview. It gets really quiet at times so that is kind of a bummer.

Good law suffers under terrible management

Pros

Mayer Brown has a history of very good lawyers providing excellent service to its clients. There is opportunity to learn best practices from accomplished partners.

Cons

The historic heartlessness and disorganization of the corporate culture threatens its standing as a provider of excellent legal services. Recent mass exodus of excellent practitioners is evidence. Associates are miserable and there is little cohesion amongst the U.S. offices. An "every man person for his/herself" culture pervades -- and ruins any scant collegiality. Professionals in administrative and support departments are treated as second (or third) class citizens, which further degrades the collegiality.
