Pros

Best Benefits Insurance 401K match 19% company stock Work only in Texas (no traveling out of state) Hire good talent, great co-workers Good bonus during good times

Cons

The field struggles with work life balance. They move staff around too much. Understaff jobs. Have way too many initiatives (green, BIM, quality, safety, etc) and do not get the overhead or man the jobs to support the initiates. The directors of these initiatives seem to push work onto the field staff and complain that the initiatives are not being taken seriously. Lots of training, but it is all mandatory and their is little time between the staff size and initiatives to do it during regular hours. So they ask you to do it online after hours and on Saturdays (mandatory Saturday safety meetings 4 per year, 7am -12pm and sometimes till 3pm). Do not seem to be forward thinking (field staff do not have smart phones in this division). Slow to promote, but hires in at levels where there are people ready to promote to. No or minimal raises in the last 5 years.

Pros

1) Employer profit-sharing plan provided after one year of service. Historically, 19% of an individual's salary is contributed to an account and vested after 5 years. 2) Quarterly peer meetings/trainings. During these meetings, you have the opportunity to connect with individuals from other job sites. You also might recieve exposure to a scope of work that you have yet to manage. Lunch is provided. 3) Opportunity to work on community-impactful projects such as hospitals, biotech labs, and schools.

Cons

The most emotionally unregulated and disgusting people that I have met in my life work at McCarthy. While the company promotes strong core values (Genuine, We Not I, and All In), these principles were often not reflected in day-to-day operations. A noticeable shift in behavior occurred only when upper management was present, which made the culture feel inauthentic. Be mindful if you bring prior experience as it might lead to being overloaded with responsibilities beyond your role, as leadership may assume you can simply “handle it.”
