Pros

The people that are the 'boots in the trenches' are VERY good, very dedicated in their work. It was an honor to lead them.

Cons

Unless you're in Seattle, you're left to fend for yourself by senior management. They made promises they later reneged on, made many promises to the client about what would be done and then refused to support local managers, so that those promises could be fulfilled. With the refusal by senior management to support remote teams, the teams got the brunt of the displeasure from the client, and the salespeople would come in, make more promises and (again) fail to deliver. The cycle was repeated many times. Most of the upper management is uneducated (one director I had to work for, when he learned about my doctorate, was screaming at me, demanding to know if I thought I was smarter, because he only had a high-school GED...). Thus they make terrible management decisions, are unable to adequately lead, and are abusive to their employees.

Pros

Strong corporate culture, good perks like free passes to local events and museums, nice offices, on site cafeteria that can be hit or miss, and if you are a proven worker hours have some flexibility.

Cons

Company hierarchy is extremely topheavy. The upper levels of management don't seem to do much of anything so overhead is very high and compensation low relative to local competitors. Pressure to meet annual performance targets fall heavily on the boots on the ground even though the obvious culprit is the bloated and ineffective management. Internal company divisions leads to lots of infighting and general tension. Low salaries leads to rapid turnover, among engineers and technical staff the problem seems especially acute. Advancement within the company is very difficult. Most management positions are filled with external hires and not through promotions. Unfortunately the position you're hired in is likely the one you're going to be stuck with. If you want a raise or a promotion your beat bet is to find a new employer.

Pros

Great people, great learning opportunities, fun company events, oversight of the energy team is pretty good, there is a strong spirit of collaboration, and upper management is transparent about how the business is doing on a quarterly basis.

Cons

Poor coordination between sales, technical services and operations, the PTO policy is archaic, employees on the job site come in sick because of they don't want to burn PTO and spread it to others, there is pretty high turnover, and the salaries are below market value.
