Pros

Pay, benefits, profit sharing. Tuition reimbursement.

Cons

Lack of respect shown to employees by management. They treat people like children. They tend to fire people for no apparent reason, this keeps the rest of us subdued and paranoid. Don't get me wrong, most people who get fired are underperforming. However, it seems like some people get fired randomly for no reason. They pay well and the benefits are great, but that's about it. Hard work means nothing to them. You can work your butt off all year and get a horrible review because your supervisor is a 21 year-old kid with no work experience who wants to practice giving someone a bad review. It happens here. All in all, it pays the bills and the benefits and hours are good. You just have to practice biting your tongue and forget about self-respect once you walk through those doors.

Pros

The money, the money, the money......and great coworkers (at least some of them). For a first job it is certainly trial by fire on gaining leadership experience although worthwhile in the end.

Cons

Can be very political with management, if you don't watch out you can get stuck in the same position for years and eventually they will want to sweep you out.

Pros

Salary and benefits are above-average at McMaster-Carr, regardless of your position. The company quickly gives inexperienced hires fresh out of school the opportunity to manage people. As a member of the management team, you don't have to work killer hours if you can get your work done efficiently. If you are looking for a place to just put in time and get paid well, McMaster-Carr is a good fit.

Cons

McMaster-Carr is not a place where you can develop many transferable skills, so beware staying too long unless you want to remain there forever. Innovative thinking and challenging projects are in short supply for supervisors and managers because senior leadership places enormous value on guarding the status quo against progress. They are far more likely to hold an hour-long, multi-department meeting about what salutation to use in emails than about what strategies are best for growing the business and defending against competitors. The ambition and intelligence of senior leadership remains to be seen, which is disheartening for all of the people below them. I sat near the CEO in several meetings and often wondered if he was awake.
