Pros

starting pay rate was competitive.

Cons

Sales reps that work for the papers are a nightmare. Some of the lowest, shadiest, most horrible people you will ever meet. They make a big sale to a client they know will never pay because they get commission on the sale not once the client has paid so they couldn't care less. The whole thing is a scam and you are left picking up the pieces.

Pros

The individual teams at each publication are great. Great sense of camaraderie.

Cons

Upper management has no idea what they're doing. Layoffs happen frequently and are handled terribly. The Connecticut cluster is in shambles because the people working in the trenches are laid off when revenue is down (which is always), so there are skeletal crews trying to put out newspapers/magazines. They've outsourced much of their production work to India, including designing local ads. Raises are non-existent, compensation is a joke.
