Pros

The open PTO is great. Great company culture with social events held at least monthly. Everyone is very friendly and helpful, which makes collaborating throughout the company enjoyable and easy. Great work/life balance. Never had to stay late or work more than 40 hours a week.

Cons

Pay is lower than average and promotions/raises are essentially non-existent. Annual salary increases are higher than average but not usually enough to correspond with experience gained over several years. Turn over is high as people tend to leave around the two-year mark for jobs with better pay and/or career growth. Career growth can be a problem and it wasn't really discussed with me. My role lacked advancement which is one of the main reasons I left. Teams tend to be spread out throughout the various office, so you tend to only interact via online or by phone. This can also be a problem for getting recognized by upper management if you're outside the New York office since the majority of them work out of the NYC office. Mediaocean owns many software systems, which can be a problem if your team is small. It can be difficult to be knowledgeable about how each software works if you’re working on a multitude of platforms.

Great Company, Some departments more limited than others

Pros

The culture and people are awesome. The perks are great, and the benefits are decent.

Cons

Limited mobility depending on your department. Salaries are low, below industry standard in most cases. So are pay increases so to advance financially or in career you will likely have to move on after a year or so. Some of the executive staff have an attitude that their needs and wants are more important, so the little people often get overlooked.

Mediaocean Response
8y
Greetings and thank you for your response. We highly value feedback from our employees, as our leadership team is committed to making Mediaocean an exceptional place to work. This year, in demonstration of that commitment, I and other leaders will be responding to select Glassdoor reviews. This change allows us to further engage with former and current employees on issues that people feel strongly about. Your voice is important, and we are happy to respond to the variety of anonymous employee feedback sources (employee engagement surveys, feedback bins in the kitchen, etc.), which now includes the Glassdoor platform. I certainly agree that our culture and people here are awesome, the perks are great, and our benefits get better and better every year. As such, I am surprised and sorry to hear that you feel some executives have portrayed an attitude of superiority. We deeply cherish our open and collaborative environment, where everyone (including our CEO) sits in an open space. I have to admit, that took a little getting used to for me when I joined the firm, but now I see the value! I would appreciate the opportunity to meet with you confidentially to hear about your experiences. If there are examples of this happening, I can assure you this unwelcomed behavior will be corrected immediately. You can e-mail me any time at BWolf@mediaocean.com, or stop by my desk in Chicago or New York (where I visit about once a month.)

Pros

Diverse team. Market leader in media management agency software. Tons of perks around the office - game room, frequent food, monthly breakfasts, flexibility in office hours, well known brand in market, very intelligent team and organization

Cons

Office politics, a lot of chatter, some folks are bi-lingual in that they talk out of 2 sides of their mouths, sold to Vista Equity Partners in 2015, 20% lay off followed, sometimes too many projects going on at once makes delivering on customer needs and expectations challenging
