Poor leadership, chaotic, immature, and very political

Pros

- Freedom to work from home. - Some of the hires in the past year are seasoned and experienced, with strong business acumen. Unfortunately, they are not enough to overcome some entrenched issues (see below). - Standing desks.

Cons

Seriously think twice if you are considering accepting a job here. The issues are abundant: - Leadership is not aligned. Often they work at cross-purposes. - Chaos and fire drills resulting in minimal business impact: you work on one project for a few weeks, then the direction changes, and changes again, with a fairly continuous stream of fire drills. At least a third of the time, the initiative goes nowhere - because there wasn't alignment at a senior leadership level, or the initiative wasn't well thought through, or it never really made sense to begin with. Which makes the crazy fire drills particularly demoralizing. - I witnessed several investment decisions that were not based on facts or business cases. If you are used to (and welcome) an environment that emphasizes fact-based decisions, you will not fit in. - For a $500 million public company it is surprisingly immature in business process. - A weak HR department that doesn't address personnel issues and lacks maturity. Also, regarding HR, note the many suspiciously fake Glassdoor reviews. - The company is still led by the founders. Medidata could do better if more seasoned leaders were put into place, IMHO.

Pros

The lights turn on in the Office Locations.

Cons

Lack of any tangible Company Culture, Direction, and Passion. Bullying, Hostile Work Environment. Non-existent Work/Life Balance. 10-15 Hour work days are the norm if you do not have a manager title. Pay and compensation are not competitive. Pointless Reorganizations that stagnant any team progress. Brain-drain. Many of the few remaining talented employees are jumping ship. Endless Meetings. Falsified and pressured via HR for Mgmt. and New Employees to leave positive Glassdoor reviews. Continuously rotating and disconnected executives. Archaic, Bug Filled, Legacy Products, which have simply been given a UI face-lift. No growth or movement for Internal Employees. Very poor treatment of Contractors, particularly Finance Contractors for which I have witnessed myself. Culture of Outsourcing -- Massive Team Layoffs. Continuous Political In-Fighting across departments. The absolute worst IT Department and support. Multiple failing internal services & support. Horrendous and spiteful Middle Management, across departments. New Executive Flavor-of-the-month that follows with over expectations, which ends at disappointment and employee separations. R&D experiences almost semi-yearly complete restructuring due to lack of management, vision, and a 'Outsource Everything' Culture spurred by the tyrannical COO. Extremely High Employee Turnover for past 7 years+. Churn & Burn Mentality. I have never seen the amount of voluntary and non-voluntary employee separations from any other private or public company. The most unprofessional, unethical, duplicitous, HR Department, I've ever witnessed. Lack of diversity, clear fabrication of facts, which aided to the Company was unable to hire in Japan for over 1.5 years due to the unethical, and destructive HR Management. This is public and available information.

We are sorry to hear about your experience and take your feedback seriously. We are passionate about ensuring Medidata has a world-class culture, benefits program and low employee turnover. Medidata has grown rapidly over the past few years (20%+ growth). Maintaining this growth requires new people, processes, and systems. We know that change is hard on organizations; and while some people flourish with the new challenges, others may not. Long-tenured employees who built the company may feel it is a different company than the one they joined. We have worked hard to build and maintain a culture that is appreciated by our employees and this has been recognized by being certified as a Great Place to Work by Fortune Magazine, Fortune 100 Best Workplaces for Millennials and Fortune 25 Best Workplaces in New York as well as a Forbes Most Innovative Growth Company. We depend on many internal processes such as Town Halls, Employee Engagement Surveys, and Executive Chat Breakfasts to ensure we receive feedback from our employees because we strive to continuously improve. We also have an Open Door Policy at all levels to capture day to day product or priority questions and we depend on the use of our Ethicspoint to handle serious issues that require confidentiality and anonymity. It sounds like these venues may have failed you or you didn’t know they were available and for that we are also sorry.

Looks Can Be Deceiving

Pros

Good policies to start off with, unlimited PTOs.

Cons

The management at Medidata is definitely not up to the mark. It hits hard on you when a technical person is managed by a non-technical person. Talent is definitely under valued at this company and they loose out on the brightest of minds.
