The Medline rep runs their territory like it is their own business..this is not all bad, but it creates a lot of extra work and can cut into profits for the rep. The rep is involved in determining pricing on non contract items, collecting on past due accounts, sharing in freight costs to name a few examples. In a busy territory, it is very time consuming that it takes away from growing business. Additionally, newer reps have a house draw on existing business. I began my month at almost negative $10,000 commission. Some months were still great but some months I owed the company money (and the negative carried forward to the next month). The rep before me did not have this and when I tried to negotiate that number down after a great review I was told it was never going to change. There are so many transactions every day at Medline, that even if they got it right 99% of the time, that still leaves dozens and dozens of errors for the rep to sort out and sometimes take a financial hit. I felt like I was constantly apologizing every day to customers.
