Growing company with a culture problem

Pros

Company is growing year after year. Scheduled pay raises for hourly employees.

Cons

Inconsistent scheduling. Management either doesn't want to hear or doesn't care about the opinions of employees on the lowest level. Everyone talks about everyone behind their back. If what's being said about you is good this can work in your favor, but mostly it's petty, vile stuff. Meijer has a promote from within history, which means there are people in high level management that have no work experience other than Meijer. This hurts the company's ability to be innovative and agile. These things that I mention reflect the corporate offices, not necessarily the stores.

Pros

this is a pretty solid company ..family owned..ive been here for 7 years now and if you can suffer through and make it past your first two or three years we really don't get rid of anyone.

Cons

our store is always cutting labor, it makes me furious that our management doesn't seem to care about out long lines...the out of stocks in dariy and the carts all over the parking lot..becaseu we have don't have people to get them. How can they not see this??if you think you will get waited on in the Deli department after 6 pm...forget it no one will be there.

Pros

There is nothing so far I can consider a "pro".

Cons

In my 22 years of retail, I have never seen so many employees wander around, wasting time on the clock with no accountability. Employees hide in the backroom to avoid helping customers and getting stuck doing real work. Leadership walks fast and looks busy without actually doing anything. The cliques are mind blowing, certain groups of employees never more than five feet from each other all day long, no matter what they're doing. Phone ringing off the hook, customers requesting assistance from the sales floor, co-workers ignoring it all, standing in back room talking about what's for lunch - management does nothing.
