Pros
Been working as a store detective for roughly three years. Started at a "select" store with five other detectives and then moves to a "Cat 0" store where it's just me. If you work with other people, sometimes it feels like you're being paid to hang out and have fun (catching theives) and doesn't really feel like a "job." However, if you work at a 1-2 detective store be prepared to work your butt off. Don't get me wrong it is a fun job, however being in charge of everything from swearing out warrants, to every single monthly/weekly/daily inspection and still be expected to "stamp out shrink", have your store be "200% accountable for safety", evidence logging, paperwork and still catch people can be burdensome. Some pros are you get a $0.60 raise every six months, benefits, night shift premium of $0.35, drive time and mileage, continuous training and great first assistants(MAPTL).
Cons
Some cons are there is no overtime( in the two years I've worked here, I've maybe gotten two approved hours of OT). You are non-union, at will enployee. High-schoolesque drama amongst store level team members/leaders. Certain policies are a laughing stock.
