Pros

Melissa & Doug makes some of the best educational toys on the market. Parents, Grandparents, educators, therapists, & all in between stand by their quality and play value. It was an easy sell to most & I knew I wasn't pushing low quality & cheap value toys.

Cons

For years no one had titles, so you were in Sales, Customer Service, Operations and that was it. They didn't encourage growth no matter how much you learned (on your own) since their was little to no formal training there. In the last couple years, all the new hires had these lofty titles. It was a joke. The people that really knew how to get things done & had been building the company up for years were doing the day in day out dirty work. No matter how much you grew your business year over year they would keep the raises to a minimum or come up with BS about how the company didn't perform as well as they had hoped. Communication was not open ended & only came on a need to know basis. Most employees were kept in the dark as to the major decisions being made behind the scenes. Working there for 15+ years with stellar reviews year after year still didn't mean anything to the new CEO & management team. They didn't have a relationship with all of us veterans or loyalty to us so I guess it was an easy decision to just let us go. We were all just treated like a number in the end. And the owners, Melissa & Doug, never communicated once with the employees during anyone being furloughed and ultimately when we were let go. It was a big group of very talented & dedicated people that were the ones to be pushed out. Only a handful of the veterans remain on staff now, but so much has changed for the worse. And for the 15+ years of service we were all given 2 weeks of Severance Pay. 2 WEEKS!!! What a giant slap in the face! Be decent! We broke our backs, worked many weekends & holidays, traveled the world for you, sold, sold, sold, opened account after account anywhere & everywhere in the world we could for you, left our families for weeks at a time for you...to be thrown away with no communication, minimal severance, & the worst taste in our mouths. Why did we all do as much as we did for you? What a waste! What a shame! They makes great toys...that's it. They don't treat anyone like family, but rely on families around the world to support their "cause". Don't go here.

Pros

Great people, finally starting to see internal promotions and career paths and a brighter future even during these dark COVID times. With due respect to all other reviews, my experience is very different. The founders sold their majority share many years ago, they made a fortune and the employees got nothing! Zero investment back into the people who did all the work to build the company. We were never told the truth, everything financial was hidden from us and we were expected to be grateful for our 50 hour per week jobs, a 30min lunch break and that we were given our own email accounts. REALLY!? Most of us weren’t even “allowed” to speak to the Founders, no matter how often they publicly said otherwise. Whether we like or not the new CEO and other leaders, we have done a 180 with information flow, which allows all of us to make better decisions for ourselves and the company. Employees are finally able to ask real questions and get real answers, even if hard to hear at times. We are finally operating the company like all employees expertise matters, not just the opinions of two people. One persons opinion, but I have talked to many others who share it, we haven’t lost our soul or purpose, we are finally finding it!

Cons

It stinks that we could only do 2 weeks of Severance for those who were restructured but given our realities, it is also understandable. Very tired and dated office but as long as we are WFH, it is out of sight, out of mind.

Pros

Terrific Co-Workers, Product and Customers

Cons

Don't be fooled and/or trapped into filing an application for "this family, friendly company". There are over 30+ jobs available at this time. They DO NOT care about their employees. They will work you like a dog and treat you with the utmost disrespect. If you see positive/glowing reviews anywhere, they were obviously written by Kristine of HR. Stay away from Melissa & Doug for your own self worth and peace of mind.
