Pros

Wonderful co-workers from a wide variety of backgrounds.

Cons

Melissa & Doug has been purchased by an investment group who has gutted its work force of key sales and support veterans upon whose shoulders the company was built over the past 30 years. Founder Doug Bernstein has been replaced as CEO. The restructuring is unfortunate but certainly their perogative however only two weeks severance pay was provided. Most of those let go had over 8 years of employment. Many over 15 years. At the same time millions are being invested in E-commerce marketing.

Pros

We used to have a lot of issues of secrecy, lack of communication, strong beliefs that the way we’d always done things was the only way to do it, and no one was allowed to make decisions which slowed us down and was demotivating. The new CEO has introduced a totally new culture where we actually have transparency to our direction and how our business is doing - and our leaders are now trusting us to own and drive the change. It’s really energizing to be a part of a company in a moment where we are defining for ourselves the course we should be on.

Cons

Health insurance isn’t very good - sounds like the intention is to improve it, which will be a welcome change.

Pros

Most people who worked here were really good people, dress was casual even before Covid and we worked hard but did laugh a lot. But it all changed this year when the leadership changed. Most of us didn’t even realize it was happening until everything changed.

Cons

I get that the new people care about profit. It’s normal & I guess we weren’t very profitable before. But we used to care a lot more about people, & now we don’t. So many of my work friends were let go & most were here much longer than me. And how are they supposed to find a new job during Covid? And they didn’t even give them time or money or insurance until they figured it out. Why would anyone want to work for bosses like that? I’m sure they’ll sell the company & get rid of all of us & not care. I’m going to stay here for now but leave as soon as I can find a new job. I’m sure they won’t care anyway.
