Pros

The best part of my job is working in a specialized field with colleagues who are dedicated to the patients we serve. I also enjoy working with most physicians and nurses. Some are complete bone-heads, but the great ones outweigh the bad ones.

Cons

Dealing with Managers and Directors who are not engaged. Year after year, we experience cuts and set backs, with the system taking more from our paycheck, and receiving less recognition or raises. I work in a specialized area, in which the system does not completely understand the work we do. Our management does not advocate voraciously enough for our department. As a result, the system regularly cuts our benefits, and now are requiring us to work more hours for the same pay. If it weren't for my colleagues and the work I perform, I would no longer be here. Management has forgotten how critical it is to take time in getting to really know their employees. we are not a for profit corporation. we are human beings who work in the service industry to help others. Yet, management has forgotten the importance of human connection, and make decisions based on review of a spreadsheet. Thus, making it easy to change schedules and cut staff, without considering the ramifications.

Pros

You are able to take time off if needed

Cons

Pharmacy management team is weak and spineless. Pharmacy management team routinely turns a blind eye to problems. When you complain -- you are the problem. Management makes poor decisions causing the pharmacy to be overwhelmed.

Pros

You come to work and know you are doing something good and working for a nonprofit. Intentions are good here overall, but the organization has grown a lot at AVP level and above. Opportunities exist for entry and growth, depending on your area of focus. Benefits package is competitive overall. Opportunities to join employee resource groups, ED&I, Partners in Caring. I would also say, your experience here really may matter based upon your work location and direct leader. Visibility, opportunity and culture vary. Good luck.

Cons

Very, very silo-ed organization. So many executives and a lack of cross team collaboration or communication. This is especially true between corporate office and business units like hospital campuses and clinics/retail sites. Patients do not fit into one service line and there is not even a service line for each category of business. It’s a feasible framework, but not flexible/adaptable. I end up having to do work of some kind on every vacation, and usually most weekends. Wish I could say a good work product yielded positive recognition, but that depends on many factors. You can be very valued and stuck.
