Pros

Great benefits; driven coworkers that bring the best out of you; and many opportunities to grow.

Cons

As a very large organization, it is a bit intimidating at first. I came in as an RSA and eventually found my stride in the clinical practice plan.

Pros

You get to meet nice coworkers who just make jokes about how horrible the job is

Cons

You’re sold on the idea that it’s a great stepping stone and within 6 months doors will open. You’re not told that the wait is actually a year to even be considered. You’re also not told of the amount of exhausting work that is thrown at you. I personally have to cover 3 providers alone on a daily basis because management doesn’t value us. As an OC you try your hardest and are never heard, respected or even assisted. You can be drowning in work but because you showed up to work that’s all that matters. Management tries to act like the work isn’t too much and insists on asking more from you. I suggest take whatever is said during the interview with a grain of salt because it’s all lies.

Pros

Depending on your clinical team, you can work with some of the most amazing doctors and nurses. Patients can be wonderful to speak to and you feel fulfilled when helping them coordinate their care. The benefits are great as well!

Cons

Beware management (depending on your department). It is clear management does not care about their employees. They will drive away their best employees by rewarding good work with more work. They rather have a few good employees pick up the slack, rather than re-train/replace lazy staff. It is common to be in double coverage for several months at a time, and when you ask for an incentive, don't expect to hear back. Expect to work several hours of overtime, and don't expect to feel appreciated when you go above and beyond. Office coordinators should be compensated much more than they currently are.
