Pros

Good hospital. It’s a well known hospital across the world so it looks good to be able to say you work for them (good company brand). You have a huge impact on the patients lives which is rewarding.

Cons

Poor management. Poor work life balance. Salary is very low - you do a lot more work than what you get paid for. Training is minimal and you are expected to learn every aspect of the job very quickly. If they think you are not living up to their expectations, they will fire you and will not feel bad for you or negotiate it. I’ve seen it happen numerous times. You are just another number to them and you are replaceable.

Pros

Memorial is a huge company so I'm sure that there are some great teams out there. I wasn't on one of them.

Cons

It was disappointing to see such blatant mistreatment of people of color. On my team, the handful of people of color were carrying what I estimate to be 80% of the team's workload without any agency to say no to additional work being given to them like their white counterparts. Leadership is shockingly underskilled - limited knowledge of what is required of the projects, project management, etc... The lack in diversity in those that get promoted in an otherwise diverse teams speaks volumes. If you're a talented person of color, I would avoid this place at all costs.

Pros

MSK offers excellent benefits, especially 401k. New hire training was two days. I met some really wonderful people from every part of the organization. My mother was a patient many years ago, and I really wanted to work there. Some of the Lead Admins I met were also wonderful and available to help.

Cons

I have many years of experience and have worked with high-level people but MSK was very challenging and one of the most difficult. Researchers are gifted, but that doesn't translate into being a good boss. I experienced rudeness and poor communication skills. The backhanded behavior was most disappointing. You can't transfer to another position until you've been employed for a year (I tried). My experience was untenable. While interviewing, do your research and engage everyone as much as possible. Ask questions. You will be required to hit the ground running, possibly with little guidance. If you have previous experience at a hospital you will figure it out. If you don't, beware. Benefits are great but salary was low and non-negotiable at hiring.
