Pros

Descent benefits if you can survive the work culture.

Cons

Company culture generally negative. Hours required for insurance are 45 hours per week. Office management micro-managed work. When I had to take time off to take my kids to doctor's appointments I was given negative feedback. Female staff was generally uncomfortable being in confined spaces with the owner due to his unpleasant perspective on women working. Good people in any negative work situation turn negative. I generally found that's what happened in the work situations I found myself in. Within the retail side of the company, the part-time staff was required to stay late after closing with no prior notice to help unload unscheduled deliveries to the store.

Pros

- At stores: Pay is comparable to other retailers, bonuses and premium pay on the weekends is nice. Opportunities for advancement are frequent. - At the General Office: Opportunities for advancement are frequent.

Cons

- Opportunities for advancement grow out of an environment wherein everyone is expendable. Whether you're pushing carts at a store or the Chief Merchant with 33 years invested in the company: One word from John Menard or one guest complaint and it's your last day. This fear of constant, unexplained firings also creates a toxic, fear-based management team. - Pay at corporate is subpar to the industry, even before considering that most of your pay is wrapped up in their 'bonus' structure. With 'bonuses', they still pay 38% less than the industry average. - Zero benefits at corporate. Zero.
