Toxic, Condescending Culture

Pros

You will work with an intelligent group of well educated people.

Cons

Unfortunately, this organization has a deeply toxic work environment. The culture is condescending, and it is common for employees to be spoken to in a rude, bossy, and disrespectful manner. Workloads are consistently piled on with little to no regard for work–life balance or employee well-being. There is a serious lack of effective leadership. Management does not provide adequate support, nor do they address ongoing issues within teams. Bullying behavior by colleagues is tolerated and normalized rather than corrected, and there are no meaningful consequences for unprofessional conduct. Despite hard work and increased responsibilities, employees can go years without receiving even a standard merit increase or meaningful recognition. The workplace appears to reward narcissistic behavior, while employees who are respectful and collaborative are left unsupported. Overall, the environment is demoralizing and unsustainable, and I would not recommend this employer to anyone seeking a healthy, respectful, or well-managed workplace.

Pros

Good benefits, allowed to work remotely.

Cons

Mercer does not practice what they preach to their clients at all. They don't care about the health and well-being of their employees. Every year around November/December, tons of employees are laid off due to “restructurations” or “cost saving measures”. Anyone can loose their job, these annual layoffs are not based on performance. Employees are generally worried about their job security. No clear path to advancement. Poor trainings. Toxic culture. Lots of office politics. Huge and disorganized reorganization with ever changing priorities.

Pros

Your people manager is fun to work with - typically same personality and upbeat like you as a seller.

Cons

Horrible internal bullying.... If you are not the typical ones that have been there in the Houston office for 8+ years together, good luck - They will make it miserable for you. I wish clients/prospects would view these negative reviews prior to choosing a broker.... This team of "leaders" treats their own employees this way but preaches employee health and well-being to clients, just does not add up. I highly advise you look elsewhere if you think about coming to Mercer... You will save yourself one stressful year with a full INCOMPETENT team.
