Pros

Mercy has a wonderful mission and is dedicated to serving patients. They are very innovative in their technologies and business strategies.

Cons

Mercy struggles with developing their people. They need to focus on management training. There are numerous programs available to improve the way they interact with and relate their coworkers. Mercy needs to realize their greatest resource isn't Epic or a new Data Center but the people who make those things possible.

Pros

Mercy's IT division promote from within. There is a good work life balance with very little overtime expected.

Cons

Be careful what area you're in. There are some areas with completely inept management. When stuck in one of teams you're a disposable item that is only there to be berated, insulted and if they are succesful - completely miserable. Management does not know priorities, every day is a crisis, there is no such thing as sharing information and working in a silo and doing a poor job is rewarded. If you don't want to learn or be creative or actually solve problems you might find this management style tolerable. The pay is significantly lower than the region. They have not revised job classifications or job titles to align with the IT industry so you will be expected to several levels of work regardless of what your title or pay scale is. Lots of cronyism amount management. There is a spirit among some teams to ridicule everyone else but themselves leaving the workplace a very unhappy environment. If you like to learn, do a good job, offer solutions to problems and help a growing IT division - do your homework. Stay away for certain areas.
