Pros

Mercy's IT division promote from within. There is a good work life balance with very little overtime expected.

Cons

Be careful what area you're in. There are some areas with completely inept management. When stuck in one of teams you're a disposable item that is only there to be berated, insulted and if they are succesful - completely miserable. Management does not know priorities, every day is a crisis, there is no such thing as sharing information and working in a silo and doing a poor job is rewarded. If you don't want to learn or be creative or actually solve problems you might find this management style tolerable. The pay is significantly lower than the region. They have not revised job classifications or job titles to align with the IT industry so you will be expected to several levels of work regardless of what your title or pay scale is. Lots of cronyism amount management. There is a spirit among some teams to ridicule everyone else but themselves leaving the workplace a very unhappy environment. If you like to learn, do a good job, offer solutions to problems and help a growing IT division - do your homework. Stay away for certain areas.

Pros

Flexibility in scheduling time off / comp time. They do a good job of hiring nice people that are fairly easy to work with and respect each other.

Cons

IT department is growing rapidly. Policies and procedures are not fully developed. Much of the time, there seems to be too much paperwork required to get things done. We are currently implementing ITIL and the Service Desk application is not fully developed yet. Change Control procedures seem to change often, making it hard to get things approved in a timely manor. This leads to a lot of emergency requests which causes a lot of confusion. Coordination between teams is sometimes lacking.
