Pros

Good hours. The pay is decent. I enjoy the people I work with in my immediate group. My manager is very flexible and doesn't require more hours than are necessary to get the job done. Business casual dress is the norm. I don't feel micro-managed by my supervisors.

Cons

Difficult to get promotions. Low salary raises. Its hard to get the inside track. The bonuses don't compare to investment banks. No holiday party. The company is pretty conservative.

Pros

The people I work with are top notch and great people. The benefits at MetLife are very good - 401k and a portable pension. Also have Medical / health / dental / vision / legal / along with other benefits. MetLife also has a focus on improving the employee and offers continuing education opportunities and training opportunities for all levels of employees. They re-imburse for qualifying education expenses. They also seem very committed to developing talent from within and promoting from withing. I started with the company not too long ago and have moved from an entry level position to a Director level position.

Cons

It is a big company and there are some corporate initiatives and politics/beauracracy that causes us to be slow and less competitive. Also, their traditional lines or more mature lines of business are stuck in some of the old paradigms of how to do business and have been slow to transition to a new and more proactive culture. However, I will say that Senior Management has seen this as an issue and is currently addressing it through initiatives to improve the organizational structure. These initiatives should better align the core businesses and improve communication and decision making across the enterprise.
