ICU Experience

Pros

Smaller hospital. Nice break from speed of Level 1 hospitals. Good patients and staff.

Cons

Level 5 Hospital at best! Lots of transferring complex cases to bigger sister hospital. Allow Med Surg nurses to transfer non-critical patients to ICU when short staffed or uneasy about patient's "increase respiration". You will lose your Level 1 ICU skills working on this unit. More often than not, floated to med surg unit and given more than 2 patients.

Thank you for your review. We regret that you didn't have the ICU experience you expected. Being one of Methodist's newer hospitals, we are rigorously focused on recruiting and retaining the best staff, especially when it comes to ICU nurses. We wish you the best.

Pros

The people are what keeps me at Methodist. Upper management like anywhere only cares about their bonuses and pinching pennies.

Cons

No metal detectors so we're wide open for a shooting which we've already had and killed a nurse and a social worker.

Pros

Working at Methodist Dallas as a full time tech is nice because you get around 3 months of training in every dept of the hospital. That’s great if you’re a new tech and need some structured training. It’s a level one hospital, but on the smaller side compared to parkland so, you get a good experience without it being too crazy. Management does make an effort to work with you as best they can given the lack of staff. Everyone is pretty nice outside of the OR (OR workers in general seem to be uppity and crabby regardless of where you go), cafeteria and employee snack room is decent. It’s kind of tucked away in it’s own little area of Dallas which is kind of nice. Management seems to make an effort to hire friendly tech’s.

Cons

Short staffed, lack of evening shift techs, etc…
