Cons
Some projects are a little outdated, so fixing an small issue can become a really hard task out of nowhere. If you are shy, it can be hard at the beggining, since you have to tell people what you are doing and what you need help with. Not all projects, but some have little to none docummentation, which to ramp up in a project you need to ask a lot of questions. Some of the old practices are not up to date, others seem like someone was trying to be clever, but it failed in the proccess.
