Revolving door, no loyalty, burdensome processes

Pros

Fairly easy to get hired...they have such a revolving door that they're always looking for people.

Cons

Revolving door at the upper management level = pervasive insecure feeling throughout company. They just booted their COO...although he'd been in the position a record 2+ years....this coming a year after terminating 4 senior/executive vice presidents. Legacy employees get the shaft on salary. People that left the company and are rehired (sometimes years later) are making more than current staff in the same position. Endless, burdensome project management processes. Owner of the company is a venture capitalist whose portfolio includes a company running the border concentration camps. ie - getting paid $750+/per day/per caged child. Culture of fear: threatened to have your performance review impacted for EVERYTHING from turning in your time sheet late, to not completing training. You're reminded daily that they don't trust you with your time (when you log in to your computer) and are warned that they have access to your email and instant messaging. HUGE disconnect between Corporate Communication/Operations/C-Suite. Zero upper management buy-in for diversity/inclusiveness programs.

Pros

I enjoyed working with some of the other employees within the organization.

Cons

If you're a professional that likes doing what you're good at, Michael Baker isn't the place for you. Micromanagement is the norm here, and any educated decision you make doesn't matter, because screw your education. They're the kind of people who will tell their doctor that their leg isn't broken after he shows them an X-ray of their broken leg. Rather than making decisions based on educated analysis, they're made on the simple opinion of a few. There is no culture within the organization that can compare to what a true company culture should be in 2018. They care more about optics than they do about efficiency. It's easy to imagine no future when sitting in your luxurious coffin sized cubicle while being choked by your suit and tie. The plus side is that while you slowly die on the inside you won't be alone. Thanks to the 3.5' walls of your cubicle you can look your co-workers in the eyes and know you all made a terrible mistake.

Pros

Amazing, hardworking, knowledgeable, and dedicated people who are willing to put in extra hours to get the job done. Most of the offices have phenomenal environment, culture, and camaraderie. The company participates in life-changing projects all over the nation.

Cons

This is where the Pros end... 1) Compensation is not competitive. No bonuses to speak of (unless you are in upper management). 2) Company-wide recognition/rewards are non-existent. Many offices are fixing this by holding their own mini- recognition luncheons, cookouts, etc. 3) Executive management gets reshuffled every year. This makes the environment at the top of the company very toxic, politicized, and unhealthy. This inevitably trickles down to middle management and makes them insecure and scared. 4) In general, executive management has absolutely no regard to "regular" employees. 5) The owners of the company have way too much say in how the company is managed and run. Even the best executives who could make a difference have their hands tied. 6) The owners of the company are too impatient to see more profits, do not let any new initiatives yield positive results, and replace them with yet other "flavor of the month" initiatives. This creates confusion and lack of trust in the upper management's competence. 7) Although it exists on paper, there is no clear career path that employees who want to advance within the company can follow. This results in many of them leaving to work for competitors. 8) Recently appointed CEO reminisces too much about "when I was at GE"... GE is not Michael Baker International. It's time to live in the present.
