Pros

Trained some great people along the way

Cons

Dedicated 12 years to a company that allowed a mentally and emotionally unstable store manager to deem someone not qualified for a job when I knew way more than that manager and worked harder. District manager was a joke to work with and I can say Ive worked with a total of 8 with 2 of them competent. "Support center" aka corporate treats employees like slaves expecting large workloads to be completed with little to no payroll and the veiled threat of if you can't do the impossible then we will replace you with no hesitation. Hourly paid managers are expected to move mountains while lazy store managers sweetheart their hours and time to be home at night with their families while the rest of us lose that time. Benefits are crap. They put so many hurdles to use them. Pay: your better off going to Walmart or a grocery store as they try to pay as close to minimum wage as possible.

Pros

Loved, absolutely loved my store and my employees. I was an Assistant Store Manager. Very creative, very fast paced, always on the go work environment. Not a single day was the same. Never in 8 years was I ever bored. Never. Great career opportunities if you want to work a lot and sacrifice your weekends, holidays.

Cons

No life - work balance. Michael's is a hard core retail. During Xmas season I put in 70 to 80 hour weeks. Crazy busy. Plus, hated to work on Thanksgiving. Why in the world does a craft store needs to be open on Thanksgiving.....
