The pay and benefits are good and comparable to other universities. You have the opportunity to work with top researchers on projects that will have valuable applications in multiple areas of the economy.
Cons
The department survived a reorganization of the college recently, but the administration may attempt to merge it again in the future. Funding is becoming tighter in general at all universities, so the department is feeling the squeeze. Yearly raises have not kept in line with inflation. To meet the administration's expectations of bringing in funding, faculty have focused more on research lately and as a result teaching has suffered.
