Pros

Beautiful location. Quiet, provincial seaside town. Easy commute. Good job for a recent graduate who desires exposure to many areas of higher ed. The Monterey Institute struggled financially a few years ago, but Middlebury College acquired it recently and injected much needed money and organizational expertise.

Cons

MIIS is run like a small-town "mom & pop" organization. It lacks certain fundamental organizational systems, and compensates for this by placing an overabundance of authority in the hands of a very small number of long-term employees - many former graduates. New hires from the outside rarely stay more than a couple of years before moving on to higher paid positions elsewhere.
