Pros

The ability to meet and interface with new people on a daily basis. Employee Discounts, decent pay for a college student summer job. Made some good friends.

Cons

Constant pressure to make "goal" (quota) for the week, even when its extremely slow a lot of the time. Upper management holds SJ store to same standards as the high earners like Palo Alto and Los Gatos. Simple fact is that not enough people in Willow Glen buy high end bikes to sustain the unreasonable goals set by the CEO/President. Retail Software can be tough to use, and is not at all reliable. Very difficult to move up in the company unless part of the IN crowd. Very small pay increase for an experienced salesperson returning for a second summer. Next to impossible to get Vacation time. Having to work every weekend from 10-6 is ridiculous. The shop never gets a day off, even when the days are super slow. Commission is a joke. 1% for bikes, etc. Way too low, especially for how the hourly pay is. You aren't respected unless you are at least 25 years old, kiss everyones behind, and are a hipster from Marin.

Pros

You're working for an industry that promotes an active lifestyle.

Cons

The benefits are not as nearly as good as other companies in the industry. The owners milk employees new to the work force or those who are looking to reestablish careers. Don't expect to grow and prosper with Mike's. Promotions and rewards are only left for those who are considered part the "Mike's Family" which is code for white, male, Marin county resident, loyals. Most of management has only Mike's work experience. They are reluctant to listen and embrace new ideas or recognize contributions from those from outside of the "Mike's Family".
